  1. Adam,

Are you sitting at a long wooden table in Colorado? Is a tallish, bug-eyed woman your wife? Do you have a son that is riding his big wheel?

It’s all I could think of.

    Best,

    Greg

    1. If Jack Torrance had had Excel, then he would have had more time to play.

Speaking of, according to some claims, Kubrick “used an electric typewriter with a small built-in memory capacity to type the pages. The typewriter could be fed with a phrase and left to repeat it ad infinitum.”

From the always invaluable Kubrick FAQ:
      http://www.visual-memory.co.uk/faq/html/shining/shining.html

Although note that others claim otherwise (see the FAQ for more).

      Always the caretaker,
      Adam

      1. Ha! This is reminding me of some of the punctuation used in notating chess games. From Wikipedia:

The following short-hand notations are frequently used to comment moves:
! a particularly good (and usually surprising) move
        !! an excellent move
        ? a bad move
        ?? a blunder
!? an interesting move that may not be best
?! a dubious move – one which may turn out to be bad
        □ only move
        TN a theoretical novelty

          1. Hey Molly,

I figure we can use these for our comments, too. So although I’ve seen something similar to what Adam has done here on somebody’s blogroll I’ll still give him a “TN”.

    1. Yes. They just release their ninth issue (containing a piece by Steve Aylett). And I they rejected a piece I sent them last fall (two pieces, actually). Still, no hard feelings—Garrett Cook, the associate editor, seems a cool daddy-o. Submissions are currently closed, however.
