Lia Purpura’s Best of 2009

Here’s some more info about Lia:

Lia Purpura has published poems and essays in many magazines and journals, including AGNI Review, Orion Magazine, Antioch Review, Georgia Review, Iowa Review, Parnassus: Poetry in Review, FIELD, and Ploughshares. She lives in Baltimore, MD, with her husband and son. Her most recent book is a collection of poems, King Baby (Alice James Books, 2008), which won the 2007 Beatrice Hawley Award. Purpura’s collection of essays, On Looking (Sarabande Books), was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award in 2007. She was named 2004 Writer-in-Residence at Thurber House in Columbus, Ohio. Her essay “Autopsy Report” was a “Notable Essay” in Best American Essays: 2004, and her essay “Glaciology” was awarded a 2005 Pushcart Prize.

  1. another great writer from baltimore. i live just outside bmore and am constantly surprised/happy to hear how many great writers are nearby. there’s not as many outside annapolis where i live but i guess i’ll claim bmore as my own.
