Announcing: The 2024 Big Other Literary Citizenship Awardees!

We are excited to announce the recipients of the 2024 Big Other Literary Citizenship Award. This award aims to recognize outstanding efforts toward supporting the work of innovative writers and adventurous presses, through reviewing, editing, publishing, and/or promoting books, as well as encouraging, building, and sustaining a robust literary culture.

These exemplary literary organizations will be further celebrated at the 2024 Big Other Book Awards Ceremony (date to be announced).

And the awardees are:

From AAWW’s website: “For over 30 years, the Asian American Writers’ Workshop has been dedicated to publishing and amplifying Asian diasporic literary culture. Operating from a radically inclusive ethos, AAWW expands the definitions of who is a writer and who is Asian. Through a diverse lineup of programming and our award-winning magazine, The Margins, AAWW serves as a vital sanctuary space for writers and readers alike. In cultivating and curating the next generation of storytellers, AAWW works to mobilize the literary community toward a more just future.”

From PFL’s website: “The Palestine Festival of Literature (PalFest) is a cultural initiative committed to the creation of language and ideas for dismantling colonialism in the 21st century. The festival was created as an act of cultural solidarity with Palestine by a group of international cultural figures brought together by Founding Chair, Ahdaf Soueif, in 2008. Since then, PalFest has run an annual festival in which international authors combine with their Palestinian counterparts for free, public events in cities across Palestine. During the daytime, visiting authors are taken to sites of historical and political relevance and meet with artists, authors, and activists.”
