A Sentence About a Sentence I Love, by Derek White

—Ampère’s circuital law (with Maxwell’s correction)

I love «Ampère’s circuital law (with Maxwell’s correction)» or the whole set of Maxwell’s equations (if it counts as a sentence) for their symmetry & encapsulating simplicity—not only did Maxwell’s correction (the last bit) show how the electric & magnetic fields were inextricably twined but it also revealed that the speed at which the married fields traveled was exactly equal to the speed of light—revealing that light itself is an electromagnetic wave.

  1. Hey Derek,

I would say that I can always count on you to think outside of the box, except that you’re not in a box to think yourself out of.
